Cardiac Sonographer honored as Fire Starter of the Month
April 3, 2017 – Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers recognized Cardiac Sonographer Lanett Eddy of Marseilles as Fire Starter of the Month for March.
Eddy developed a passion for healthcare as a teenager when she completed her training as a certified nursing assistant at age 16. Today as a senior sonographer at Morris Hospital, she administers echocardiograms, a non-invasive, painless test that helps diagnosis heart conditions in patients of all ages.
Additionally, Eddy has lead Morris Hospital in becoming accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL) four different times. Jori Christensen, Morris Hospital’s Director of Cardiovascular Services and Education, says Eddy makes tremendous contributions to Morris Hospital’s echocardiography program.
“In addition to serving as Technical Director for our ICAEL accreditation, Lanett was hugely instrumental in our recent software upgrade,” says Christensen. “She was our go-to person because of her ability to troubleshoot, think critically, and understand the entire process. She’s a phenomenal employee.”
For Eddy, taking on a lead role comes naturally because she loves to learn and she loves to mentor others, whether it’s co-workers, new employees or students. Eddy also enjoys a stellar reputation with her peers and is described as being “incredibly hardworking and dedicated to her job, always thinking what is best for patients, and looking into areas we can improve the healthcare of our patients. She provides excellent patient care and always puts her patients first.”
Christensen concurs. “Lanett is genuine, knowledgeable and compassionate. I continuously get positive feedback from patients who Lanett has cared for.”
Eddy herself admits that she truly enjoys helping people, and she sees herself as a liaison between her patients and their physician.
“I love having one-on-one time with patients and hearing their stories,” she says. “Sometimes they’re sick, they’re tired, and they’re scared. I like to make them feel comfortable and treat them like family – with respect. I want to help my patients feel better in every way I can, because that’s what I am here for. I may not remember their names, but I remember their stories. And when I see them in the grocery store, they remember me.”
In early civilizations, fire starters were the individuals who had the important job of keeping the flame alive. As Fire Starter of the Month, Eddy received a Grundy County Chamber of Commerce gift certificate, a Morris Hospital logoed clothing item of her choice, a special “Fire Starter” lapel pin, and a designated parking spot for the month. Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers is the largest employers in Grundy County with over 1,200 employees.
