Morris Hospital Floor Technician Inspired to Pay it Forward
August 26, 2019 – Patrick Walters has even more on his mind than clean floors when he comes to work each day as a floor technician in the Environmental Services department at Morris Hospital. He wants to contribute to a common goal and give back to the medical community. That’s what inspires the Joliet resident to give 110% and provide excellent customer service to everyone he encounters as he goes about his work each day. For these reasons, Walters was selected as Morris Hospital’s Fire Starter of the Month for July.
“Patrick is one of those employees who comes in and focuses on doing the best job he can,” says Cindy Stubler, Manager of Environmental Services at Morris Hospital. “He gives so much credit to the Environmental Services team, not realizing his importance to the team itself. We’re so grateful to have his talents and commitment to Morris Hospital.”
Walters came to Morris Hospital in 2015 after spending 34 years in the manufacturing industry. He says he was looking for a way to apply his energy to something more “community based,” and Morris Hospital gave him an opportunity to do just that.
“None of us go through life without needing a team of medical providers,” explains Walters. “My family and I are very appreciative of all the medical community has done for us over the years. This is a way for me to give back and pay it forward. It’s the perfect way to say thank you. My hard work is a way to say thank you.”
As Walters sees patients leave the emergency department or outpatient area each day that he’s on the job, he knows they have been impacted by a team of doctors, nurses, therapists and technicians.
“It’s personally rewarding for me to do things for people who are doing things for others,” he says.
In early civilizations, fire starters were individuals who had the important job of keeping the flame alive. With over 1,300 employees, Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers is the largest employer in Grundy County.
