Dedicated Health Information Specialist Named Morris Hospital’s July Fire Starter of the Month

July 25, 2024, MORRIS, IL – If there is one thing that Morris Hospital Health Information Specialist Pam Davis enjoys, it is problem solving. Her coworkers in the Health Information Management (HIM) department say Davis has gained a reputation for being an excellent resource when a problem or project needs a fresh set of eyes. The Morris resident’s go-getter attitude and work ethic have made her an invaluable member of the HIM team at Morris Hospital in more ways than one. In recognition of her excellent customer service and teamwork, Davis was selected as the Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers July Fire Starter of the Month.

“Pam always takes initiative on projects and is always trying to find the best solution,” says Morris Hospital HIM Manager Kathie Schmidt. “She is a team player who brings positivity to the department. Pam is someone everyone in the department knows they can go to with questions and she is always willing to help anyone.”

After 16 years working in customer service and product management in the retail setting, Davis says she was interested in going back to school to get an associate’s degree in Health Information Management. Davis says that Health Information Managers are responsible for making sure patient’s health records are correct and available when requested. Luckily for Davis, the skills she learned while working in customer service and product management proved to be valuable in her role today.

“I really enjoyed working with the customers when I was in retail. That, along with my problem solving skills, made HIM a natural fit for me,” says Davis. “In my role today, I am combining all the things I enjoy doing into one position. I am incredibly lucky to love what I do and be able to help people.

When asked what she enjoys most about her job, Davis says it is working every day to improve processes that can make things better for her coworkers and patients who call requesting their medical records. “I love the challenge of trying to find the cause of a problem and then working out different ways to solve it,” says Davis. “I love learning something new every day. Having an inquisitive mind has helped me continue to grow my knowledge.”

In early civilizations, fire starters were individuals who had the important job of keeping the flame alive. With over 1,400 employees, Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers is the largest employer in Grundy County.
